Caring for Blue Star Junipers

Agent_P(Central Indiana)November 28, 2004

My wife and I just bought a home and with it came quite an array of wonderful foliage, most of which I know nothing about!

There are several Blue Star junipers (I only know what they are because the previous owners left the tags on them) that seem to be getting brown around the edges. Does anyone know if this is due to the fact that it is getting cold now? They are planted in a shady area and they get plenty of water runoff from the gutters on the house. The soil stays moist all the time. I don't know anything about the soil chemistry, and they are not planted in pots. I googled around a bit on these plants, but can't seem to find anything useful. Any suggestions would be helpful, thank you.

Hi Agent P,

They are most likely getting *way* too much water from gutter runoff. Blue Star Juniper (Juniperis squamata 'Blue Star') prefers drier, well drained soil and full sun.
