Can anyone name this plant?

sidekickdecoyMay 26, 2007

During a day hike in the hills of Idyllwild, CA I saw many of these little pink blossoms poking up out of the ground. I would love to learn more about them but I don't know what they are called. Does anyone know what this odd little plant is?

It reminds me of Indian pipes (Monotropa uniflora), but the color is wrong. It also reminds me of Beech drops (Epifagus virginiana), but again it is wrong. Then again there is squawroot (Conopholis americana ) but that is still wrong. These are all plants that come up out of the soil in a manner like what you found.

If you don't get an answer here, try the name that plant forum.
