ID wild flower, pls.

virrasztoMay 25, 2008

This wildflower/weed grew in my vegetable patch. There's nothing growing in there yet, except this. I think it's a pretty flower and I'd like to put it in my flower bed. I'd like to know a bit about it though, like will it take over, etc....?

After searching, I think I found out what it is. I believe it is White Campion (Evening Lychnis).

It is, indeed, a campion. Some are native, some are not. Some are mannerly, some are not. If it concerns you, make real sure of your ID before deciding to keep it or yank it.

I was wrong on that ID. It's actually a Night-Flowering Catchfly (Silene noctiflora) which looks nearly identical to the White Campion. The night flowering catchfly closes during the sunny day and opens at night. I'm gonna yank it either way.
