lowbush blueberries

woodlandpixie(z6 NJ)February 26, 2006

Does anyone know a good source locally to buy low bush blueberry bushes? I found plenty of high bush last year in local nurseries . I"ve been told planting both types together results in better berry production.

Thanks

I ordered low bushes from Miller (Northblue and Northsky) and I am finding that they grow very slowly compared to the high bushes. I have heavy soil and it may be that the high bushes are more adaptable.

Having more than one variety increases production but I think it works just as well if it's more than one variety of high bush.

There is a produce/fish place on the road between Pemberton and Route 72 (I think it is Magnolia Road) that sells native blueberry bushes. I bought one years ago that was named Rancocas and it didn't do well in PA, so I gave it to someone from NJ who is having better luck than I did.

Good luck!
