Sand burr or some type of burr?

zlug(5)June 24, 2013

I just moved in a couple days ago, and these are all over my property. I live in Cache Valley, Utah.

I am not quite sure what it is. But it hurts to step on!

It is a tiny little thing. Only about 2-3 inches long and grows in tufts.

I was told they were sand burrs but looking at images online, I don't see the resemblance.

Does anybody have ideas as to what it could be?

Thanks!

I have always heard them called sand spurs. There are several different types.
