redbud 'leaf folders' how to control

barton(z6b OK)June 12, 2007

It may be a little late now that they are already folded.

Anyone had success getting rid of these?

Digging around on the web there's not much advice out there for control so I'll suggest what I do for other fold leaf pests.

If you want to go chem free the best way to control them is to crush the larvae in the leaves. Some say you should also get rid of the leaves in fall in case some of the little guys overwinter in the leaves.

I did read about a spray, um... carbaryl I think it's called, that's used on grap leaf folders so you may want to research that to see if it might be effective.

Other than making things look a bit ragged leaf folders are said to not do much in the way of long term damage.

Good luck.
