Lanza fired 155 bullets in less than five minutes

lily316(z5PA)March 28, 2013

Police also found Samurai swords, grisly photos of murdered people, and an NRA guide and certificate. Mama Lanza was a fruitcake as well. She sent him a Xmas card with a check in it to purchase a NEW gun.

While most kids idolize sports or rock stars, his heroes were mass murderers. Mom Lanza is so hated up there in Newtown , she is not included in any memorials any more.

There you have it , gun nuts.

Putting aside the usual arrogance so typical of Americans, perhaps we're becoming less and less a civil society. Easy to talk about standards of behavior, law, and values and how they should be applied equally from Afghanistan to Zambia. When we see it not happening, being idealists in a less than perfect world becomes more and more difficult.

I'll never understand what it will take for enough to be enough!

Last night on Nightline there was a segment on why so many parents are buying their kids bullet proof backpacks, INSTEAD of addressing the gun issue. The company used to make them only for police and the military, but now they're made in pastel pink and other kid colors for these five year olds. One father was instructing his tiny daughter to always leave the protective device in the pack. He said now that she has this maybe we can go to the movies again.

If I were a five year old and had to wear a bullet proof backpack, I'd be traumatized for life. The gun culture is ruining this country.

We live in a society that has glorified guns through almost every form of entertainment media. So, to that extent, the NRA is right, we need to change our culture.

That said, the proliferation of military style assault weapons is something we should address,. We have to take any action that we can to help prevent a future massacre. Rest assured, the majority of us, the 300 Million Americans who are not in the NRA , will not stop until we ban the sale and distribution of weapons which have no beneficial use to society but pose extreme risks.

To Lily's point, watch the video ad linked below. Can you imagine another son of an nRA member standing in or outside your local school or university and shooting the place up like Lanza did?

Here is a link that might be useful: I can't quite describe an assault weapon but I know one when I see one

Crazy, angry people will do the ugliest of crimes, with any weapon.

A 53 year old nurse, stabbed 11 times on the street in downtown Cleveland, on a Sunday afternoon, after visiting her divorce lawyer.

A video tape will hopefully make for a quick investigation.

" And on and on we blame good people for deeds of bad people."

Nobody blames good people for the deeds of bad p[people...NOBODY! It's a lame argument .

The issue is keeping these types of "tools" out of the hands of people who would do others harm ...and quite frankly that isn't always a guy with a criminal or mental health record.

I will say again what I truly believe....in a civil society
NOBODY needs "tools" like those used in Sandy Hook ...NOBODY, there is no good reason to have them!

What happened to the 53 yrear old nurse is horrible--but for that incident to be relevant here, you need to make it 20 nurses all wiped out in a couple minutes time by one person they don't even know.

You know--massacres, mass murders, a pile of dead bodies--all in a minute or two.

The other main category we are concerned about is those so-called gun-safety people (all gun-owners claim they are the safety-conscious ones) who carelessly leave their guns laying around where their inquisitive little nephew can pick it up and accidentally shoots his little playmate- - or husband or wife shooting the "intruder" only to find it is their spouse or kid. Those family "accidents" with guns are shockingly high!

Of course any act of violence should be investigated and someone hopefully sent to jail for it, but we are talking about a whole different level of violence when it is 20 kids or 20 nurses wiped out in a minute or two by a total stranger!

Let's not lose sight of that horror!

Remind me again, how will this stop crazy people from doing crazy things. Where would bans end, what do we do when the criminals invent or re invent other means of destruction?

Of course the good people are being blamed, why else would anyone want to take something from me that I never misuse?

Chase, Lily and Dano ... it may be "lame", but the fact of the matter is any gun control will be on FUTURE weapons, no one is going to go so far as to confiscate and/or recall the millions of weapons out there already. Keep in mind as much as you would like to make this "petty partisan pokes", there are guns in the hands of many democrats who will resist any efforts to "take their guns".

In another thread, Fancy found a survey he liked, it was conducted by the NRA. They were very sure to ask certain types of questions to their members, including: Please tell me if you agree or disagree with the following statement? When it comes to gun regulations, President ObamaâÂÂs ultimate goal is the confiscation of many firearms that are currently legal. (IF AGREE/DISAGREE, ASK: And do you strongly agree/disagree or just somewhat gree/disagree?)

and

Some (Other) people say regardless of President ObamaâÂÂs recent comments of pursuing a balanced approach his real goal is to pass sweeping gun control regulation that will take away our 2nd Amendment rights

Keeping them frothing ensures they stay vocal and pass on the lobbying message.

Its my own opinion that the kids mom had some real problems. what is/was her mental health background? Everyone has equal rights until they display cause for the revocation of those rights.
So many of these killers have serious mental problems, how do they not get noticed? We need more education in this direction. We need to know how to see it in family members, and others who need help before they go off.

I think we need more investment in mental health: Wisconsin's 2013-2015 state budget contains a lot of provisions for improvement & expansion of our mental health programs in our state including those services for adults & children diagnosed with mental illness, community-based care for same, establishment of an Office of Children's Mental Health, Peer-run Respite Centers, in-home counseling services under the Medicaid program to increase access and allow for earlier intervention, and more.

I hope other states are doing likewise.

That's not the way it is seen in Missouri..

See HB 545

4. Any person who, prior to the effective date of this law, was legally in possession of an assault weapon or large capacity magazine shall have ninety days from such effective date to do any of the following without being subject to prosecution:

(1) Remove the assault weapon or large capacity magazine from the state of Missouri;

(2) Render the assault weapon permanently inoperable; or

(3) Surrender the assault weapon or large capacity magazine to the appropriate law enforcement agency for destruction, subject to specific agency regulations.

Excuse me if this has been mentioned previously. I for one think it is a bit over the top!

That's the whole problem....we have no way of knowing who the wack jobs are until they murder innocents...... The least we can do is limit access to weapons that have no other purpose but to kill many people, quickly...

As I say NO civil society needs access to those types of weapons......there is no need and no right.

To support access to such weapons is tantamount to supporting their use in situations such as New Town. It has to stop!!!

I am so weary of this gun debate. I have become an even more fervent supporter of stringent gun laws, especially reading the posts by the gun nuts on HT and elsewhere. They are very very scary. I don't know people like that.

I think Mom Lanza was a nutball. She would not have been judged mentally deficient, but she was a little crayon short of a box. Maybe that's why hubby took leave a decade ago and other son had no contact with her and his whack job brother. Any sane person who had the arsenal she had knowing she had a deviant for a son, ought to have been locked up. She gave him a check to buy yet another GUN!!!! Really?

Interestingly Lanza left at home the guns which didn't have the big magazine capacity. He wanted the most bang for his buck...easier to slaughter 20 precious little six year olds and their six brave teachers. No one mourns mom. She raised the devil's spawn. Karma is a b!tch.

I believe that is the most sickening statement I've ever read here. I don't care what one's position is on gun control, but to say you will sacrifice your family (your children!?) to keep something is beyond belief to me. There are a lot of things I hold dear, but you may have any one of them before I'd allow you to "murder my family". I feel sick. You clearly love your guns more than anything else. I only infer that to have whats mine, itll take murder from some govt official to get it.

However , if a search warrant was issued for some legitimate reason and the Police or FBI came knocking, you would have to lay down your arms, open the door and obey orders just like other citizens that do not have an arsenal in their home.

Guns do not confer any additional rights on their owners. To the contrary, they create additional duties, including registration of those weapons so we can track the crazies. Gun owners have to register their weapons and obey the law.
It should not be too much to ask yet the blow-back has been astonishing to some of us.
We want guns out of the hands of criminals. We want less powerful weapons that threaten police and firemen who have to do their jobs in dangerous neighborhoods. We want to stop the insane gun craze in this country and part of that is the desire for manufacturers to make and people to own increasingly powerful and deadly weapons.

And what practical use or societal advantage do those weapons have?
And why should my money pay to hire full time SWAT teams and additional armed security everywhere to deal with an advancing threat from these kinds of weapons and the radicalization of the Right?
