bright 'n tight carolina cherry laurel

evan_nj(6)April 24, 2005

My local garden center had some beautiful examples of bright'n tight carolina cherry laurel from Monrovia last year.

Unfortunately they took the winter badly here in Mercer county and all the leaves have turned brown and fallen off. They show signs of flowering however and I'll cross my fingers that the leaves will regrow.

Does anyone have any experience with this cherry laurel in central NJ? Is it likely to recover from the loss of the leaves?

They should recover just fine, Evan. I know of an holly - don't know the variety - that lost all it leaves during the 2003-2004 winter and it looks great now.

As long as it's getting ready to flower I wouldn't particularly worry.

Prunus caroliniana is basically a leaf-browning or dieback shrub here unless protected from wind.
