Need suggestions for difficult spot

dr.liz(7 NJ)July 13, 2013

I planted 3 ostrich ferns in a spot I thought was pretty shady, at the edge of a woodsy bed. The ferns have scorched badly and will need to be moved. Turns out it gets some direct sun in the middle of the summer--early AM and noonday sun to be exact. As the season advances into fall (or from spring) it gets progressively more shade. I need some suggestions for what to use instead. The spot is about 4x4', big enough for a small shrub or a few good size perennials. Thanks!

How about:
Virginia bluebells (Mertensia virginica),
Jack in the Pulpit (Arisaema triphyllum),
Dwarf iris (Iris cristata)
Witch alder (Fothergilla spp.)
Coral bells (Heuchera spp.)
Foamflower (Tiarella spp.)
