Name this Monster!

Ok, this guy stands at least 5" tall. The "flowers" are very hard spikes. It has thorns all over it, and the leaves are evil looking. Name that Monster!

Teasel was brought over by the settlers from Europe to use in the wool looming trade - I cannot think of the proper term for it though...lol - to tease the wool I guess

"Fulling" is the process. There are two very similar teasels that have become naturized, fuller's teasel (Dipsacus fullonum) with light purple flowers and cutleaf teasel (D. laciniatus) with white flowers. Here's a link to one page on a Kansas site for fuller's teasel, which has a further link to the cutleaf variety and good pictures and descriptions for comparing the two.

Here is a link that might be useful: Common/Fuller's Teasel

i have something similar in my yard - but the leaves look more like small watermelon leaves and it has a purplish flower before it gets the green pods - any ideas?
