wildflower seen on North Carolina beach

geoff_nc(7)July 18, 2012

This plant fascinated me when I found it growing wildly in the sand dunes of Emerald Isle, NC during the month of September. I wonder what it is and hoped someone could identify it for me. If you look at it carefully you will notice that the leaves of the plant appear to have been painted with a bit of orange. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

That is a special plant. Looks up pictures of Euphorbia heterophylla.

Fascinating! We certainly enjoyed looking at it during that September - it was growing rampant right behind the beach front house we had rented for the month.

Again, I thank you for solving the mystery for me. I'd looked high and low for the answer and had never found it until now.
