Did something lay eggs on my tomatoes?

ladychroe(z6 NJ)May 11, 2005

I have a 6-pack of Rutgers tomatoes that I have keeping outside during the day and bringing in at night. The other day I noticed a tiny pearly ball attached to the bottom of a leaf with a few tiny strings. It was about the size of the head of a small pin. Closer inspection revealed several more, all stuck singly to the bottoms of leaves or to stems.

I picked them off of course, but I'm curious to know if those were hornworm eggs, or if not, what? And should I throw the whole batch out? I could separate them from my other tomato plants, plant them somewhere else.

My other tomato plants seem unaffected.

I'm clueless, but have you tried posting over in the Tomato Pest and Diseases or Tomato forum? If so, I apologize for not checking first ;)
