WANTED: info on indigenous species

eatyourveggiesMay 27, 2005

Greetings and Happy Spring to all!

I am new to the Southern New Jersey area (Tuckerton, Little Egg Harbor, Ocean County). I would appreciate any resources pertaining to indigenous edible plants of this region for a community garden project that I am working on.

Thank you, I look forward to enjoying this forum throughout the seasons!

You may get more responses if you post this on the NJ discussions page (toward the top of the NJ swap page look for switch to discussions), the Natives, or Edible Landscape forums, but off the top of my head I can tell you Pawpaw (Asimina triloba) and at least some blueberries (Vaccinium) are native here. If you use the link below, you can specify either US or Connecticut native, and check the box for Edible Fruit/Medicinal Value as a starting point.

Here is a link that might be useful: Univ of Connecticut Plant DB search page
