rooting crape myrtle

Kathy89July 5, 2012

Ugh I have now tried 3 different ways, 1 in water, 2 in a soil/sand rooting mix & now in Gel2root. I have successfully rooted many different types of plants using all these methods with great success. Yes I used 4-6 cuttings each time, ALL failed. I could simply go buy a plant, but I have 1 outside my office that is exactly the color I want. Anyone have any ideas?

Crapes root easily a few ways. Semi-hardwood shoots taken in summer root easily in sand or perlite, sealed in a clear bag in shade. Last year's growth planted in sand or sandy loam ground in April with tips flush with the surface will root and grow. Crapes will also root sucker if the root system is damaged. They'll grow from seed, but flowers may vary. I have over 25 varieties and all are easy to propagate.
