need help to id a caterpillar

nancynj(6)July 2, 2005

I've noticed floating in my above ground pool some white caterpillars with black heads. They're about an 3/4" long. Anyone know what they are or what they'll turn into?

If they are fuzzy, they may be tussock moth. A pest on sycamore trees, but am not too familiar with them and there must be many species. The hairs cause skin irritation.
