what is it?

a friend had a wildflower patch and would really like to know what flower looks like a tree, or an evergreen when it first came up. they grew to about 2' then had small flowers on top branches. anyone know what it may be or suggest

somewhere to search. its been awhile ago and not sure where to start. thanks

It would be helpful for you to give the location. What color are the flowers? Is the foliage very narrow?

The only thing that comes to mind is Standing Cypress, Ipomopsis rubra.

A description of the shape of the flower is also necessary.
