Elephant Ears Winterizing

gregkobbNovember 7, 2006

Bought EE from Home Depot and grew them in pots outside. They did great. now I am diging up the Tubers for the winter and to my suprise the Tubers are no longer round at the bottom. They look as if a spoon scooped out the bottom. There were roots growing from the tuber but I expected them to be round/oval like when I purchased them. Maybe they rotted a little but then came back. Has anyone seen this with there EE tubers

Hi Greg, I had the same problem with my EE's. They did grow beautifully though. When I dug them up this fall they were very soft at the bottoms and spongey so I discarded them as they were a couple of years old. I overwintered them ok last year and when I planted them in the early spring they were hard and very healthy. I will look for more this coming spring and hope I can find some big bulbs. Wayne
