North Carolina plant - grows on rocks

Jade18August 18, 2013

Hi,

Does anyone know what this plant is? It grows on a patch of moss on rocks near water. The flowers are purple.
Sorry, can't get the pic turned upright!

Any guesses?

Thanks!

Could be a Talinum, which now apparently has a new name. We found these (mostly pink ones) on rocky outcrops on rescues, and I have also bought some. They appear to bloom around 3:00 standard time, which makes them a unique addition to the native garden. I planted mine in concrete containers and lots of permatil. With so much rain this year, they have bloomed only a little, but in previous years they bloomed a great deal...always in the later afternoon. Fun to watch!

Here is a link that might be useful: Talinum info
