It's September - where are the bargains?

Are there any other garden-center hounds out there wondering why the perennials aren't on sale yet? I've found two places out of maybe 9 or 10 and the choices there are very limited. Any thoughts? Thanks! MsB

p.s. I'm not interested in 50% off items that were marked up an extra 75% to begin with. *huff*

Business wasn't great this summer and they are trying to hold off as long as possible before putting perennials on sale?

Could be. New construction has tapered off in the last year or so - could be showing up in the plant business, though the spring crowds seemed as big as ever.
