Franklinia in bloom

susanswoods(Z6 VA)September 15, 2006

Two years ago I planted a seedling of Franklinia alatamaha. It's about 3 feet tall now and in bloom for the first time. It's a lovely thing. The buds swell like fuzzy pale eggs, then open to a sort of camellia like flower. It's in a bed near the house with deciduous azaleas where I'm able to keep it well watered during dry spells.

I've never tried uploading pictures but will see if I can get a shot and try it.

Is it in full sun? or some shade? I have one that I started from seed that is still in a large pot. I plan to plant it this fall. You sure have done something right! Nancy
