snow and blooming daffodils?

pondlily(6)March 30, 2012

We have snow and mixed precipitation forecast for tonight. Should I pick the daffodils that are already in bloom? I'm worried that the snow will freeze and kill the flowers. Thanks!

IME the freeze won't bother them as much as the weight of heavy spring snow breaking stems. I'd pick at least some of them to enjoy in the house.

There are 20-25 clumps of daffodils growing here that someone planted decades ago. Last winter snowfall was a record-breaking 8 ft. and the weather didn't warm up until the end of May. The daffs may have bloomed under the snow but since I couldn't see them, I can't be sure. They're up again this year and blooming just as they have every year I've lived here.

Definitely pick some to enjoy in the house but I wouldn't worry about the ones you leave right where they are.
