Have you grown Gaura biennis?

janet_e(6B PA)September 6, 2007

I'm considering Gaura biennis for a very small (15' x 15') meadow planting in my yard. If you've grown Gaura biennis (as opposed to Gaura lindheimeri or other perennial species), what do you think of it? In particular, does it stay upright or flop in your garden? How tall does it grow? And how showy is it?

Thanks for any information.

We have some growing in our backyard - from seed sown 2 years ago. The individual flowers are pretty (nice color this late in the season) but short-lived. They are well over 6ft tall (area facing east). They will look nice/noticeable in a clump amid tall grasses like the Indian grass or Big bluestem. They are a big hit with the bees although earlier in the season they were a big hit with the Jap beetles. The G. lindheimeri cultivars are much smaller and a single plant is enough to be noticed.
