Do you know anyone successfully growing a Damson plum in the Carson-Reno-Tahoe area?
I'm growing lots of plums, but not specifically a Damson. I have Santa Rosa, shiro, and satsuma. Sorry I couldn't help!
I planted a damson and two green gage plums in 1999 here in Carson City. The damson and one of the green gage plums were purchased at the Greenhouse Garden Center, the other gg plum was a seedling from a tree growing in Virginia City.
All three trees produce fruit, but fruit production is tied to frost occurance during flowering. So... most years it is famine, but every third year or so, it's a bumper crop. When the trees do produce,I have made jams, wine, and syrup and enjoyed the fruit (particularly the gg).
jcgardener1, do you know if your Damsons are Japanese or European?
In the meantime I will ask out at the Garden Center.
I got two at HD. A Japanese variety so the frost will probably get them most years.
