What might be eating apples on the tree?

Old residential neighborhood near the Carson city airport - something is eating parts of not-yet-ripe apples while still on the tree - what the ... ?

Just caught it in the act, A brown speckled bird about the size of a jay with a jay like beak furiously consuming an apple on the tree. Persons who have lived here two years say they have never seen this bird before.

edit - Confirmed, it is a juvenile starling.
