When do you sow your carrots?

seattlegardengirl(7b)April 29, 2011

Hi all,

I'm going to grow carrots in the raised beds in my local Pea Patch this year. I'm curious as to when others (especially others in Seattle) sow their carrot seeds. Last year (which was my first year growing vegetables), I moved some plants outside too early and had a few die from the cold. I don't want to make the same mistake by sowing the carrot seeds to early!

Thanks for your input on this.

Using the Seattle Tilth guide, you can sow now, so we did a few weeks ago with radish seeds in our SFG raised beds a small pinch every 2 inches for 16 in the square foot. We covered the soil with burlap bags for the first week & only had to water once as the rain kept it moist enough.

Radish are up, but not carrots since they're slower. The radish help me wait for the carrots. :o) If they don't come up in a week or so we'll sow again, but I bet they're going to sprout soon.
