Oakleaf hydrangea propagation from trimmings left outside.

alygal(PacNW z7)April 16, 2011

Last fall I cut back a rather large Oakleaf hydrangea. I had left the cut stems outside, neglecting to dispose of them. Well, those cuttings are now leafing out! Is this typical?

If I insert them in compost will they send out roots?

You could try it - but don't assume that the growth appearing now indicates they remain not affected much by being cut from the plant. The new top growth might soon collapse.
