Frost tonight inland - anyone bringing pots in?

carol6ma_7ari(zones 6 & 7a)May 13, 2013

The TV weather just showed the map of frost alerts and warnings for tonight. Inland will get it most. Coastal gardeners will probably not lose a thing. Good luck!

Weather for Ayer, MA says it will get down to 36. Do I dare risk it? I've got some tomatoes out already and herbs. I can cover the tomatoes, and some newly planted foxgloves. Herbs wont need covering, will they?

I brought everything in that isn't pretty frost hardy like pansies and lettuce. Most of the plants I got from mail order nurseries are further along than what's in my garden, so the growth may not be as able to deal with low temperatures.

It was 40 degrees on my back porch this morning. Even the newly sprouted string beans seem to be fine. All the plants in pots were dragged in the house and hopefully tonight will be the last night to need to.

We didn't get frost on Monday night, but we did on Tuesday night, so I am glad that I took the time to bring plants in.

I was away but my husband had to pick up my heirloom tomato and pepper plant order on Mothers' Day and I had my own plants started from seed that he needed to protect until I got home. The plants look fine so I'm glad I didn't try to plant them before my trip or all would have been lost. And now it's hot again. What a spring!
