Sprouting Broccoli: My New Favorite Veggie

Move over bulked-out broccoli, I just harvested some sprouting broccoli, a thinner type that's popular in England. Wow -- sooo much better than the regular variety. It will become a staple in my garden and surprisingly so few gardeners know about it.

Here is a link that might be useful: Photo here and some recipes

What so many who try it don't realize is that the popular 'Purple Sprouting Broccoli' is summer planted and must overwinter before producing. Spring planted it will just make a big plant that sits there all summer without producing.

Does anyone know how cold tolerant purple sprouting broccoli is? My wife planted some by accident and I doubt if it will live through our winters.
