Seaside veg gardening?

carol6ma_7ari(zones 6 & 7a)June 6, 2011

Anyone here have experience growing vegetables in an oceanfront house's yard? A friend down the street put in a veg. garden (flowers are OK there) and they all look pathetic. She says, constantly windy. Maybe so; my own happy veg garden is about 500 ft. from the ocean, across a briny pond, with more border trees.

What can she do to make her veg garden thrive? What kinds of windbreaks would work without cutting off the sunlight?

Sounds like just the place for a hedge of rugosa roses. What about a small picket fence?
