This odd plant sprouted up in my garden this summer, probably dropped by a bird. At first I thought it was a corn plant but it didn't form an ear, only some strange frond-y things at the top. It's around 3-4 feet tall. Anyone recognize it?
It looks like milo (sorghum) to me.
Here is a link that might be useful: Sorghum link on Wikipedia
I think you're right--thanks!
You're welcome! Just noticed too, that there is a bird bath in your picture. I'm guessing maybe you're a bird feeder, and some varieties of mixed birdseed do contain milo :-) Maybe you can just let that one plant mature and leave it for the birds to clean off this winter! Might be kind of fun!
That would explain the mystery. Thanks for the idea; I'll let it stand for the birds.
