Apples in August

corunum z6 CT(6)August 10, 2012

It's all about the weather. When I pulled into a parking spot today at a local orchard, the color of the apples in front of me were stunningly beautiful and there for a moment, I flashed back to the first grade, red plaid dress, lunch box in hand and it was September - not August. But it is August, early at that, and there is an apple picking schedule already posted running concurrently with peaches and a bunch of other fruit.

All varieties are ripening early

Although the little video below was done in Missouri, the country at large is harvesting early. I found it interesting, perhaps others here will too.

It's all about the weather, all right. I was watching the video and enjoying the fresh cool breeze, when my NOAA emergency weather radio came on with a

Tornado Watch.

"The National Weather Service has issued Tornado Watch 571 in
effect until 9 PM EDT this evening for the following areas

In Connecticut this watch includes 3 counties

In northern Connecticut

Hartford Tolland Windham

In Massachusetts this watch includes 10 counties

In central Massachusetts

Worcester

In eastern Massachusetts

Middlesex Norfolk Suffolk

In northeastern Massachusetts

Essex

In southeastern Massachusetts

Barnstable Bristol Dukes
Nantucket Plymouth

In Rhode Island this watch includes 5 counties

In central Rhode Island

Bristol Kent

In northern Rhode Island

Providence

In southern Rhode Island

Newport Washington"

The breeze is very nice, but a tornado is a bit much.

Yes, just yesterday someone asked about picking blueberries, and when we called the farm, we were told blueberries were done (which I suspected, as the season started so early) and that apples were ready, which I was NOT expecting!

I heard the tornado watch posted this afternoon, and then heard that a tornado did touch down in eastern Suffolk County, LI. Strange weather....
