Seattle Tree seeds or fruit

stolenidentityOctober 20, 2012

I pulled these seeds (they are hard and dry) from a pretty tree while walking in downtown Seattle and hope someone can tell me what the tree might be. I'd like to plant one in the yard.

The photo's a little dark but they look a lot like the dried fruit of Cornus kousa.

When mature plastered with flowerheads, therefore very popular - but often not completely happy with our summer drought. In addition to a moist soil it needs room to develop into a broad vase, 15'-35' tall and wide (bigger after many years) that cannot be whacked back without spoiling its beauty.
