Hydrangea paniculata 'Pink Diamond'

CambridgeDon(6)September 8, 2011

Does anyone know from personal experience the mature size of Hydrangea paniculata "Pink Diamond" tree form in the Boston area (z6)? Various authorities seem to give wildly different numbers, ranging from 4-5 ft to 20-25 ft. The plants I got are already 5 ft tall...

Don,
I think your confusion between the extreme differences in expected plant size is the result of pruning. If you are attempting to grow a standard paniculata late winter early spring is required.

Yes, I do plan to prune in late winter. But I want to have plants that are at least 8-10 ft tall, and I was wondering, is that a reasonable expectation for this cultivar?

I think you are safe to assume that your standard pink diamonds will reach at least 8-10ft. My regular plants are just finishing their third season from tiny 10 inch plants and are at least 7 ft tall.
