Phal hainanensis etc at Al's in Leesburg (post-fire)

komi(z7/8 DC)June 14, 2008

Almost 3 months ago, a local orchid greenhouse had a fire. That's around the time that there was a total freeze at someone's gh in Canada. Both were awful.

I finally made it out to Leesburg earlier this month for a visit. Basically a quarter of the gh is empty - that's where the fire was concentrated. A lot of the plants were destroyed or damaged, but I was relieved to see his CCM Paph Norito Hasegawa still there, as well as his CCE Renanthera. Also his Phal primary seedlings (to which I succumbed... equestris x cochlearis, stobartiana x violacea, honghenensis x violacea....)

A few photos at the link below.

This one here is (Su An Cricket '#1" x Veitchiana 'Leesburg')

Awful indeed, to loose your business or home in a fire. But loved looking at the pics!

Brookside Gardens Orchid Club has scheduled a field trip to Al's on Sunday the 21st of September . We'll be carpooling out of Brookside Gardens in Wheaton MD if any locals are interested. All komi had to mention was P. stobartiana and now I'll be chomping at the bit !!!

I have a hard time believing a farm can exist in Leesburg VA. Keep up the good work.
