Zoysia grass and hardwood leaves

joe_schmoeMarch 3, 2014

I bought a house that the previous owner has good coverage of zoysia probably 90% of the yard is zoysia. The yard also has numerous hardwoods. With this past fall and winter, I did like I did at my last house, I got all the leaves up and kept the grass clear.
Question I have is, should I leave all of the leaves covering the zoysia grass or should I keep all the leaves picked up and clear??

Ma Nature provided those deciduous tree leaves to help put organic matter back into the soil. When we rake them up and throw them away we are disrupting that necessary part of nature, feeding the soil.
Mulch mow those leaves so they go where they should, back into the soil.
