Montauks and Asters

amlzOctober 6, 2009

Should both Montauks and Asters be pinched (cut back) in mid June and if so, how much? My plants "splay" out and do not present themselves as compact, although they do produce many blooms.

Please advise and thank you.

Next year I am not pinching but severly cutting my asters right back down to the ground. They are huge. I cut them back a bit bit not as much as I should have.

I just planted my montauk daisy this fall. I read this post though that said to cut them in half twice a year.

Here is a link that might be useful: montauk daisy
