Spring day in January

christie_sw_mo(Z6)January 28, 2013

I thought I was looking at the wrong thing this morning when I brought up the temp on the computer and it said 61 at six am, still dark outside. I knew it was supposed to be warm today but didn't expect it be warm so early.

The nice weather is very convenient for Jackson because when I let him in last night, we discovered that he'd had a close encounter with a skunk (again). He's going to get a bath after while. Last night would've been better but it was dark and I sure wasn't going to do it inside.
My carpet smells a little too because he did a few running loops around the living room with his nose against the carpet trying to get the smell off of his face before we could catch him. It's like trying to catch a horse. We finally got him in his carrier and he started drooling. lol Poor thing must have had a bad taste in his mouth. He'd get more sympathy if this wasn't a repeat offense.
I think we used the peroxide/baking soda/Dawn recipe last time so I'll try that. Chloe must've been smart enough to stay away from the skunk this time which surprises me. She's normally more of a critter chaser than Jackson. Maybe she has a better memory.

I need to try to get a little yard work done while it's warm today too If I'm not exhausted after giving Jackson a bath. lol It would be a good day to get out my pruners/loppers.

I am down to only two dogs and one cat so it is calmer here, Christie. I can picture Jackson dashing in stinking and you all trying to catch him. There is always something with pets and more you have, the more often the little adventures. You will look back on it when Jackson is old and laugh. My boys have deer bones and a squashed vole that Honey dug up.

I got some bags of leaves over the weekend and put them over cardboard from Sam's. That is all I did outside because I wasn't home. I had a cold all last week so didn't get to enjoy those nice days. I hope we get one more warm day in before rain tomorrow and no severe weather.

Have you seen these hoes for sale? I don't usually spend much on tools, but these look like nice ones.

(Sorry Christie, I thought I was starting a new thread. I was looking up tomatoes and found the link. I was just in Aurora MO last weekend on Church St. and would have stopped at the True Value if I had known about them then)

Here is a link that might be useful: garden hoes

You know I don't mind Helen. I think our January spring weather is over for awhile anyway. It was snowing here this morning.
I don't ever use a hoe although it might make life easier if I did. It should work well especially on shallow rooted weeds like henbit and lamium that come up so plentifully. Looks like a good thing to spend some money on to me. It would save you some time and you'll be doing less bending. Your back will appreciate that.
