Mormodes Exotic Treat

birding_nut(6)September 24, 2009

This is a few pics of my first blooming of Mormodes Exotic Treat, a primary hybrid between Mormodes sinuata and tuxtlensis. The flowers have a nice cinnamon spice fragrant with just a hint of antiseptic undertone...really, it is quite pleasant. I have had this plant for two growing seasons. This winter I didn't give it a strict winter rest and it finally bloomed this summer. Go figure. Hopefully it will get more flowers and multiple spikes as the plant matures. Can't wait to try more plants in the Catesetinae family.

Close up of the flowers

Another close up trying to show the twisted column indicative of this genus.

A shot of the spike and plant.
