where are the Jap beetles

kmnhiramgaJuly 23, 2007

Not that I'm complaining..... but a wierd thing happened this year in my area. I haven't seen the japanese beetles. They are usually all over my yoshino cherry trees, the red maple and japanese maple. They are usually in full force in June and I haven't seen one all summer.

They are in eastern PA. Yesterday the back yard was swarming with them. I put out a beetle trap and it was half full in no time.

Yeah, no kidding. They completely attacked my roses about two weeks ago. Oddly, in the 5 years I've been gardening, I had never seen them.

I guess they went North this year? It's wierd, I've been using those traps (1 in back and 1 in front) for the past 5 years and this year I didn't see any? Yes, they are horrible, I didn't have one tree they didn't attack, maple, jap maple, oak, but they did prefer the cherry trees.
I will ask Walter Reeves (an expert in Georgia) where they are?
