Mystery plant in my yard

MissMoss(5)May 30, 2012

Hello! Please help me solve a mystery :) I have seen this plant in my yard last year and I searched in vain for some idea of what it might be. I don't see anything like it growing nearby. This year I found it in my garden so I pulled it up and planted it in a pot to see what it will grow up to be. Can anyone help me identify this mystery plant?

I have two of these growing on the side of my house. One plant is quite large about 4. I thought they were tulip trees. I'm not sure if I am correct though.

Took me some time but i knew i remembered this tree. The Yellow Poplar, also called Tulip Poplar or Tulip Tree, is named for the tulip-like flowers. The scientific name is liriodendron tulipfera. It is easily identified by the lyre or cat head shaped leaves.
