half the redbud died - any ideas??

woodsidetrader(PA/6)July 15, 2008

We have a Forest Pansy redbud that we planted about 5-6 years ago. It has been a beautiful tree. It bloomed this spring. Then when it was time for the leaves to come out one side of the tree is beautiful. The leaves on the other side were at first small and sparse. No they have all turned brown and died.

We have examined the tree for signs of damage or insects and don't see anything to account for what has happened.

Any suggestions as to what is going on? It would be a shame to lose the entire tree.

Any changes to the area it's growing in?

If not, sounds like it could be verticillium wilt . If you post this question in the Trees forum, with a picture of it, you should receive sound advice.

Good luck, I have one also, about the same age.

Here is a link that might be useful: verticillium wilt
