The fall colors were beautiful

I drove the 22 miles to Joplin this afternoon and the fall colors were very beautiful. It wasn't sunny and I usually think the sun makes the colors show up better. The grass was green because of the rain, the trunks of the trees were wet and dark against the colorful foliage. I had to focus and drive because I found myself trying to identify the brilliant yellow trees. They may have been hickories. Some of the dogwoods were a bright red instead of the dark red I have been seeing in town.

Helen, we think many of the colors are different this year. Our Pin Oak has the most brilliant color it has ever had.

I see a lot of brilliant gold/yellow along the roadsides too. I am guessing some might be hackberry. I wish we had more in our yard but we are limited on sunny areas.

I think we will take a local drive today along Sac River and maybe up toward the lake (Stockton). We decided we didn't need to go to Arkansas; we have gorgeous trees here too.
