Pygmy Date Palm

bwilliams20February 10, 2013

I have a grouping of 3 pygmy date palms in a bed outdoors. They are approx. 12 yrs. old. Recently I noticed that the new leaves and the inner part of the palms are covered in a white powder looking substance. I have sprayed with insecticide and fungicide with very little effect. Does anyone know what this could be and how to treat it?

Pygmy dates have a natural white coating on their leaves called tomentum. It is very natural and normal for many palms. You could post a picture to make sure but its most likely fine.
