Pruning Phoenix Robellini

ventsueFebruary 22, 2009

I have a healthy 2 trunk Phoenix Robellini, about 5 ft tall. It is quite bushy. I would like fronds pruned so that the trunks will show. I've been advised against pruning off healthy green fronds. Will it harm the tree to do this? Thanks for your advice.

It doesn't harm the tree one bit. I do it all of the time. I also have a couple of clumps of Phoenix Roebelenii, and I prune them to keep the overall shape of the fronds somewhat upright (I like to keep the fronds in a 180 degree shape) so whatever frond begins to hang down, I cut off - Green or not.
