please identify

found this in the rootball of a croaked pepper plant. i have seen this before but cannot remember what it was.

How big is it William? If it's pretty large, it might be a tomato hornworm chrysalis. Did you say you had those earlier this summer on your tomatoes? I think there are others that look similar, so you may not be able to identify it for certain unless you keep it and let it hatch but that may not happen until spring.

William, when you said something last summer. (Wow that makes it sound so long ago). I looked up horn-worm.
They said they over winter in the area around where they were. Even if the plant was cleaned up. Sometimes they were found in brush in the surrounding area waiting to reemerge.
I have never had them but wanted to know a little about them just incase. Good luck.
