Dividing Chinese Fan palm

alabamatreehugger(8)February 4, 2013

I bought a Chinese Fan palm today at HD and it has four palms growing in one container (all of them were like this). Is it possible to gently divide these? Would they survive it?

Sure would be nice to get four palms for the price of one. ;)

You could do it if you use a sharp, sterile knife. These are four, separate plants. Chuck the palm out of he container and cut through the root mass--try not to pull the roots--cutting is better. They should make it, but I would wait until March to do it. Keep them slightly moist afterwards, watch he direct sun or excessive dry air until it acclimates itself.
