Peculiar tree peony blooms

java.sparrowJune 19, 2013

I have been growing various tree peonies for around fifteen years or so. This one went into a new garden two years ago. This was its first bloom, and it is not what I thought I was getting at all... in fact, I've never seen one that looked like this. Anybody have an idea what is going on here?

Wow, how disappointing, I haven't seen anything like it. Hope it is just a one time thing

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It looks like a very healthy plant with a really different flower from what we expect. Enjoy having a peony that will contrast with all your others. Al

It is very healthy, and it is indeed not anything like my others, but it has its own appeal. If it matures into something like that Japanese plant on the website above, I will be plenty happy with it! Thank you!
