Peony blooms die off

I've got a Peony planted in my back yard, it's been there for 4 yrs. now. Every year it has produce several blooms. This year, it produce 2 gorgeous blooms and there were about 6 buds in various stages of growth. There was a torrential downpour ( I believe it broke the previous record by double) shortly after that all the remaining blooms turned brown and then black. A Google search turned up similar answers, that the plants have been planted too deep but that doesn't seem to fit in this situation. Any other explanation? The rest of the plant appears quite healthy.

Fungi caused the browning. Nothing you can do this year but remove the dead buds and put in trash. The fungus is naturally occuring and may or may not effect your plants next year.
