Black Spot on Peony
Three years ago at a small local greenhouse, the owner had some bare root peonies for sale. No tags, nothing, but they were only $5, and so I decided to try one. The owner gave me detailed instructions on how to plant it, but failed to tell me to soak the bare root. That's how much I knew about gardening back then. It survived all summer and winter. Second year came a few shoots with leaves and it grew to be about 8 inches high. This summer, it actually was a plant about 18 inches in diameter and about 16-18 inches high. I even thought I might have seen one bud! But it did not flower.
Now it has some Blackish/brownish spots on the leaves. Should I give up on this plant? I read the term "shovel prune" in another forum, which I thought quite clever. But I seriously doubt this peony will ever do anything except take space.
Any advice? Thanks, alleycallie
