tall peppers...what were they?

girlgroupgirl(8 ATL)January 26, 2012

A few years ago I grew some REALLY tall hot pepper plants. I mean they were at least 5' tall and SMOTHERED with peppers. One plant was red, one plant orange at maturity. I recall buying hot pepper seeds from Baker Creek, but I do not know what kind they were - nothing in my seed box nor the Baker Creek catalog fit the description (although, frankly Baker Creek rarely describes plant attributes and focuses only on the fruit parts of the plant)...

Does anyone what I could have grown? The peppers were long, pointy and about 1/2-3/4 of an inch around and about 4 inches long. Very uniform in growth. Very hot! Everyone loved them.

Thanks,

girlgroupgirl

Did the pods grow upward or downward?

I've never seen / heard of 4" tobasco peppers.

Does anything de arbol (tree like) sound like a reasonable fit?

I dunno, I recall seeing pictures of someone here that was growing what I believe was just a regular jalapeno or other common pepper, but his pictures showed what any sane person would have called a tree.

Peppers are perennial if you treat them right, did this pepper you had grow that big in a single summer, or did it get that way over a couple years?

It really could have been many different plants, I find it rare that a pepper doesnt get 4-5 feet tall in a single season! :)

A lot of pepper varieties get very tall in one season even in a pot.

My kitchen plant, older pic,it's bigger now... - 54 inches tall...

Red Habanero De Arbol - 7+ft tall.(taller now, this was an early summer picture.)

Smoke, Photobucket sez your pepper porn has been "moved or deleted." Too bad, I would like to have seen them. Rick

I was playing around with LEDs a couple years ago.
Killing time with soldering 5mm LEDs at work.
Won't mess with 5mm LEDs anymore, just the 10mm and stars.
LEDs are really nice if you make your own mixes of the right wavelengths.
